Tesla's Sentry Mode is a great camera system. The Tesla app only pushes three kinds of Sentry alert, so most owners learn about an incident hours later, standing next to the car. The clips are on a USB stick in the glovebox and whoever leaned on your bumper is long gone. It happens in supermarket lots at noon, not just on dark streets.

A security app only works if you can trust it, so here is the part most apps keep in small print:
- Your password stays with Tesla. Sign-in happens on Tesla's own page. Sentry IQ never sees it.
- No unlock, ever. The app sends honk, flash, lock and Sentry arm or disarm. There is no code path that unlocks, opens or starts your car.
- Honest about the power. Tesla grants command access as one permission, so the token holds more power than we use. We store it encrypted, with the key outside the database, and we will tell you what we could do, not just what we promise.
- One tap ends it. Remove Sentry IQ from the Security section of your Tesla account and the access is gone.

Is Sentry IQ really free?
Yes. Everything in the app is free. Every alert, every command, the schedule. No card, no trial timer.
Do I need extra hardware in the car?
No. Sentry IQ works with the car you already have. You sign in with your Tesla account and add a virtual key. That is the whole setup.
Which Teslas are supported?
Any Tesla that supports Tesla's official streaming platform, which is most of the fleet on current software. If your car can't stream events, the app tells you during setup instead of failing quietly.
Will it drain my battery?
Sentry Mode itself uses power while armed, with or without Sentry IQ. The app adds nothing meaningful on top. The schedule usually saves battery, because the car arms only for the hours you pick instead of around the clock.
Can Sentry IQ unlock or start my car?
The app never sends an unlock, open or start command. There is no code path for one. Honest fine print: Tesla grants command access as a single permission, so the token your car issues could technically do more than we use it for. Those tokens are stored encrypted with the key held outside the database, and honk, flash, lock and Sentry arm or disarm are the only commands the product sends. You can revoke access any time from the Security section of your Tesla account.
Is there an Android version?

What happens to my Sentry videos?
They stay in your car. Sentry IQ never receives camera footage. Alerts describe what the car detected; the clips stay on your USB drive.
